VP, Content Sales

The Role:

This role sits within the Rights division, the global sales and distribution function of Boat Rocker Studios. The Director/VP, Content Sales, Americas will be responsible for developing and executing a sales strategy within these markets that optimizes the exploitation of Boat Rocker IP with monetizing TV content across all forms of television – including PayTV and Free TV, and all forms of VOD and OTT platforms.  This role has been newly created as a result of Boat Rocker’s expansion into scripted & documentary film distribution.
The role provides overall territorial responsibility for scripted & documentary sales in the Americas (USA, Latin America, potentially Canada), and coordination with the rest of the global sales & marketing groups, as well as the legal and finance administration teams. The successful candidate will take ownership of building sales strategies, implementing best practice processes and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver the agreed financial targets for Content Sales in the Americas, as part of Boat Rocker Studio’s Rights group.
  • Develop and implement content sales strategy, demonstrating an expert understanding and knowledge of Boat Rocker’s content, rights and windowing strategy.
  • Direct experience in the selling, pre-selling, financing, and packaging of scripted and documentary content.
  • Contribute program sales expertise to major negotiations, including complex output deals.  Act as the senior client facing sales representative in the Americas and working closely with global sales team on high profile and/or high value sales pitches and negotiations, as needed.
  • Represent scripted program sales in key markets (USA, Latin America, potentially Canada, as well as global and/or multi-territory deals generated through US offices).
  • Source and develop new business relationships and clients to expand Boat Rockers content sales business to new broadcast partners.  Proactively explore and exploit new opportunities for growth, both with existing customers and new targets, from major broadcasters/streamers to smaller companies in developing regions.
  • To be conversant with both the program library (for packaging opportunities) and all new programming.  Further, helping identify and nurture new business, programming, and partnership possibilities across their regions.  Provide input to continually increase the quality of key marketing deliverables/sales materials.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of market conditions, partners and competitors, regularly assessing and prioritizing sales opportunities that will deliver the best strategic value and financial returns to Boat Rocker and to rights holders.
  • Lead liaison with Boat Rocker Studios’ Scripted and Unscripted Content and Brands groups across ongoing program exploitation to ensure consistency of editorial vision and optimal coordination of scheduling and marketing plans where necessary.
  • Manage relationships with senior program acquisition executives at key broadcasters to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.  Develop account management strategies for broadcasters, working with the global sales team to ensure the Boat Rocker brand is top of mind and customers are kept up to date with BR initiatives.
  • Travel internationally as and when required, to TV Markets and territories within remit on a regular basis, in order to develop and build relationships with new and existing clients.

Strategic Planning & Decision Making
  • Produce forecasts/P&L guidance and business development plans for the territory; generate and share an understanding of viewing trends by regularly researching and analyzing viewing habits and data; show intelligence and awareness of the cultural and political climates that could influence program selection and purchasing in the relevant territories. Initiate and maintain long term programming volume and output partnerships with key clients where appropriate.
  • Contribute developing and implementing cross-regional sales strategies.
Ideal Candidate Profile

First and foremost, we are looking for a highly reputable, senior-level executive with a strong track record in sales and new business development.  More specifically, we seek many, if not all the following qualities:
  • Strategic and analytical profile, able to shape a world class sales operation for Boat Rocker and partners.
  • Someone who brings a very high level of business acumen, coupled with senior level target driven sales skills around negotiating and closing of deals with P&L accountability.
  • Extensive experience in content sales, packaging and financing, specifically scripted & documentary content.
  • Proven experience of leading a content sales operation in the Americas.
  • Strong account management experience and evidence of the ability to deliver increased revenues through actively managing partners.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the broadcasting environment including specific market knowledge regarding genres and territories; in-depth knowledge of the global media landscape and emerging content, audience and distribution trends and knowledge of existing Rights windowing with an astute understanding of the future landscape of exclusivity arrangements to maximize value.
  • Highly motivated and driven to exceed targets.
